Life at Capitol Area Realty

CAPITOL AREA REALTY celebrated its thirtieth year of service to Austin and surrounds in 2006. Our team of seasoned professionals is representative of a company in business since 1976, but we also have a growing complement of young and energetic entrepreneurs who provide innovation and perspective.

Capitol Area Realty, Inc. was acquired by a small group of active Realtors in 1996 and moved to its present location in the hills West of Austin. In 1998 the others were bought out by the Jackson family who have managed the company ever since. Our 1996 expansion included the addition of advanced automation, market analysis and multiple listing capabilities, a more west and northwesterly office location, and expanded client base (Austin and surrounding areas including Highland Lakes, Canyon Lake and San Marcos, Marble Falls, Round Rock and Georgetown), and a whole new marketing oriented approach to selling real estate.

By 2007 Capitol Area Realty has grown from the little South Austin storefront company into a sizable company with gross annual sales in excess of $100,000,000 developed by forty-five (45) agents. Our clients receive the unusual benefit of old fashioned integrity coupled with access, through the latest technology, to every advantage of innovation in the industry. It is our policy to listen and understand customers' needs then proceed to satisfy those needs in the most professional and proficient way possible at the least expense to our customers. Our former clients continue to be our number 1 source of business.


Meet The Family

Capitol Area Realty, Inc. uses the latest technology in support of our clients, agents and customers, but we tend to keep the family atmosphere. In that respect all of our staff, agents and clients are family, but we will limit this introduction to those who actively manage and operate the company.

President - Jimmy D. Jackson II

When the Jackson family acquired Capitol Area Realty, Inc. in 1996 it became immediately obvious that marketing training and guidance were going to be an essential part of the evolving company. Jim Jackson II accepted that responsibility in 1998. He advanced from the basic Texas Salespersons license to broker and trained with numerous agencies along the way.

Jim has assisted more than one hundred (100) real estate agents with the development of their personal marketing. Jim's work has been a major factor in Capitol Area Realty's growth from a small neighborhood office in South Austin to one of the most successful real estate companies in the Austin metroplex.

As Vice-President for Marketing Jim has overseen the successful marketing and sale of more than one thousand (1000) company listings. As President in 2007 Jim is moving forward with the new, younger and more energetic Capitol Area Realty. Jim's background and experience in cabinet design and manufacture with the associated knowledge of natural wood grains, colors and properties, brings an unusual dimension to his coaching abilities for agents as well as Capitol Area Realty clients.

In 2006 Jim Jackson II took a more active part in business planning at Capitol Area Realty and is leading the 2007 corporate reorganization and modernization.

Vice President of Operations and Designated Realtor - Jane Jackson

Texas requires one company officer with a broker's license be appointed as the Designated Realtor. That is one the person who responds to all of the professional associations and government entities on behalf of the company. Jane Jackson holds that position.

As the wife of a Retired Army Lieutenant Colonel moving her family 23 times in 20 years, Jane brings to the real estate industry experience and knowledge of the frustration, fear, and excitement experienced during a real estate transaction. Since taking charge of Capitol Area Realty's staffing and administration in 1996, and acquiring her Brokers license, Jane has assisted hundreds of clients with their Austin related moves.

As a licensed Broker in her own right Jane handles communications with and maintains Capitol Area Realty's updates with the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC), the National Association of Realtors (NAR), the Texas Association of Realtors (TAR) and the Austin Board of Realtors (ABoR). Jane has been a property and small business owner since 1972 with property and business holdings in the Austin area. In that capacity she's an excellent source for those needing tax issues and administrative management.

Jane's transition from the insurance industry in 1995 having acquired a liscense to sell Home Owner's and Life insurance, to the real estate industry was a natural flow. That background in connection has proven to be yet another corporate asset to Capitol Area Realty not found in the average company.

When Jane accepted the challenge of managing Capitol Area Realty's operations in 1996, she took over a small company with a blemish free reputation and good basic records. Jane and her staff of four (4) oversee the activities of forty-five (45) to fifty (50) agents supervising the successful completion of over four hundred (400) real estate transactions per year. With Capitol Area Realty's philosophy of Old Fashioned Service and unrestricted availability to our clients we continue to service new clients every day.

Jim has started, helped start, and managed numerous small businesses. He provides coaching to our new agents and clients alike. His program management and small business management experience provide an unparalled depth of knowledge to draw from.

Jim has been involved in construction and construction related work since 1963. Our Capitol Area Realty agent training, agent coaching, and customer base all benefit immensely from this wealth of corporate knowledge.

Chosen in 1996 to manage Capitol Area Realty, Inc., Jim has modernized and streamlined the company while instilling into a new generation of Realtors® the same genuine concern for the customer's needs that has brought him success in multiple endeavors. In 2007 Jim turned over many of the management functions to Jimmy and Jane but has kept the "fun stuff" for himself.

Vice President- Accounting - Myron Smith

When the Jackson family took over the operation of Capitol Area Realty, Inc., one of the first recruits was a young and energetic South Austin based Realtor and Accountant. Myron is a driving force at Capitol Area Realty. She provides meaningful insight into community programs and maintains close contact with city programs related to all aspects of housing.

In 2007 senior agents within the company were asked to act as formal staff members and to maintain branch offices for the convenience of our agents, customers and clients.

James Burgeson - Broker - Lake Pointe

Jim Burgeson is a full-time professional broker and branch manager who will provide you with the most accurate information, discuss your options, and be sensitive to your needs. He will help you make informed decisions, whether you are a buyer or a seller.  As a valued Real Estate Broker on the Capitol Area Realty team, Jim Burgeson believes in Austin, the quality of life it offers, and excels in "Selling Austin" and Austin properties.  He has always been a part of a team in one way or another, whether as an Air Force Bombardier in B-52's, supporting distant USAF missions, or teaching Team Building for Texas state employees.  He is always creative in his approach to marketing and showing homes, teaming up with top industry professionals to help prepare and show off a house, or to help buyers evaluate and inspect a possible purchase.  His education, experience in many areas, keen eye, and patience with clients is that of a most dedicated professional. Being a Capitol Area Realty Branch Manager was an obvious choice.  From his USAF Bombardier days, Jim's motto is "Always On Target."  When you are making one of life's largest purchases or sales, being "On Target" is important in every aspect.  Wouldn't you want an experienced professional, with the highest regard for you and your family, on your team?

April Martin - Branch Manager- Canyon Lake

April is a 3rd generation Texan from Brenham, Texas. She is from a family of five with two sisters.  Family is very important to her and that’s why Capitol Area Realty was her first choice in choosing a brokerage.  April spends her free time with her son, Ethan, playing ball with her dogs and enjoying family barbeques. 

Her venture into real estate began as a property manager in San Marcos, Texas.  April managed 60 apartments units and 5 houses.  Managing these properties allowed her pay her way through school while earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration majoring in Finance from Texas State University.  April is a certified and licensed real estate Broker and Realtor.  She is an expert in residential and unimproved property sales.  April has sold real estate all over central Texas including Austin, Lakeway, Spicewood, Pflugerville, Lago Vista, Manor (Travis County), New Braunfels, Canyon Lake, Spring Branch (Comal County) San Marcos Wimberley, Dripping Springs, Kyle, Buda (Hays County), Round Rock, Leander, Cedar Park, Hutto (Williamson County), Elgin, Bastrop (Bastrop County), Lockhart (Caldwell County), and Brenham (Washington County).  Her hard work and determination makes her one of the best in the industry.   

All these attributes made April the obvious choice for New Braunfels/Canyon Lake Branch Manager when Capitol Area Realty decided to break new ground in Comal County.  Over the past few years, April has evolved a top of the line internet prospect system.  She trains other agents on the best methods of follow up and advises what information to send.  Her procedures prove to be successful time and time again.  With advanced technology knowledge with Publisher and Outlook, April assists other agents with organizing their business and creating new marketing.  April’s professionalism and efficiency is why referrals from her past clients continue to be her number one source of business.

Whats' Happening at Capitol Area Realty?

2004, 2005, & 2006 were each better than the previous by virtually any standard that you might choose to apply.  In 2004 we reached our recruiting goal of 45 agents and have maintained that level of staffing.  Our annual agent turn over is less than 10% and our average agent experence level is in excess of seven years.  Per agent productivity has increased more than 10% each year.  In 2006 we closed more than $100,000,000 in real property for our clients.

As we near the half way point in 2007, it is obvious that the trend at Capitol Area Realty will continue to be positive and that 2007 will see new benchmarks.
